NEW TEACHING ARTIST TRAINING

STAGE 1

Professional artists with teaching experience submit a resume to TPAC Education and schedule an interview. When there are faculty openings, interested artists will have an opportunity to audition to become ArtSmart Teaching Artists. This can happen in one of two ways: 1) Two- Day Audition followed by invited Two-Day All Faculty Training, or 2) Arts Integration Institute immersion followed by ArtSmart Study Unit immersion including an audition activity.

IN BOTH CASES: Candidates are expected to familiarize themselves with an upcoming ArtSmart Focus work well before the audition, via live performance preview, and/or full performance on DVD.

OPTION ONE – Two-Four Day Training: Day 1 immerses candidates in ArtSmart activities, followed by deconstruction and discussion of activity objective, content and delivery. Candidates apply this experience to designing an ArtSmart audition activity to teach on Day 2. Candidates will be contacted that evening to learn whether or not they are to advance to Days 3 & 4, the All-Faculty Training days.

OPTION TWO – Institute immersion and Study Unit observation: Candidates attend a three- or four-day Arts Integration Institute, then participate in Teaching Artist’ Line of Inquiry Session and TA Refresher for an ArtSmart Study Unit, including  teaching an audition activity to the group.  The candidate will then observe a veteran TA four times and write up observation reports.
