A mentored school year Study Unit is the second stage in the initial training process for new Teaching Artists. The TA trainee is paired with a mentor who guides them through the following steps in the process. Each step is an integral part of successful Teaching Artistry.
Preparation of Self
Familiarizing self with the WOA, must include significant exposure to the artwork
Journal assignment to set personal development/growth goals
Lesson Development
Group Line of Inquiry Brainstorming
Individual Activity Design
(When available) Kitchen Testing: Peer, mentor & teacher review of activity on its feet
Implementation in the Practicum Classroom
Observation of teacher and mentor TA, with follow up discussion
Teaching the activity in the classroom (with Mentor critique)
Reflection/Assessment
Personal reflection (journaling), Mentor & Teacher Feedback
Trainee assessment of the training process (self assessment and process review)
