HOT SEASON FOR YOUNG PEOPLE 2008-2009

Ghost Ballet for the East Bank Machineworks
Metro Nashville Public Art

Soaring 100 feet above Nashville’s Cumberland River, Ghost Ballet powerfully and playfully “haunts” its east bank, conjuring elements of the city’s ties to the waterway and its industrial past.  Internationally acclaimed artist Alice Aycock won the competition to create Metro Nashville Art Commission’s first Percent for Public Art sculpture. Utilizing architectural remnants of the Nashville Barge Company, her “Ghost” swings them skyward with stainless steel, neon, and fire engine-red industrial metals, connecting us to a unique site that delights the eye and mind.
