The goal of Wolf Trap residencies is for the performing arts to become an integral part of educating young children. Working together, teaching artists and teachers can create a rich learning experience for pre-schoolers. Teachers learn more ways to develop performing arts-based activities for their classrooms while teaching artists strengthen their knowledge of individual classroom dynamics and early childhood educational practice.
Within the seven-week residency format, teachers identify a specific learning goal they would like their teaching artist to prioritize. Teaching artists tailor their sessions to target that goal as well as the additional skills and knowledge that Wolf Trap methods address.
Each teacher who participates in the seven-week residency program receives curriculum materials consisting of the handbook Stages for Learning: Performing Arts Activities for Preschool Children, with songs and musical accompaniment on cassette-tape.
