When I was asked to write an informative teaser about The Pajama Game my first question was, “Are you asking me because I am one of the few around here who is old enough to have seen it?” Quickly and appropriately my co-worker responded, “No, because you are the Director of Programming.” Good answer. And this sort of workplace politically correct response seems appropriate for a show that is all about stretching the bounds of workplace etiquette.
This wonderful classic of a Broadway show by name may not register with you quickly, but I assure you, you will leave saying “I had no idea I would know all the songs!”. With classics like “Steam Heat”, “I’m Not At All In Love” & “Hernando’s Hideaway” you know you are in for a wonderfully fun event of classic Broadway. This is the story of a good old-fashioned labor strike; he is on the side of the pajama factory and she – the lovely, captivating “Babe” – represents the union grievance committee. Picture this, Doris Day was “Babe” in the movie version opposite John Raitt.
Not convinced this will be a fun night out yet? Does it help convince you to know The Pajama Game has received 12 Tony Award nominations, 7 Drama Desk Award Nominations and 8 Outer Critics Circle Award nominations? And can you believe with all this notoriety it has never appeared on TPAC’s Broadway Series, ever?! So buy your tickets early for a “classic” not to be missed!
