DESCRIPTIONIn 1925, famous lawyers, prominent journalists, and curious spectators descended on Dayton, Tennessee when an educator was arrested for violating state law in teaching Darwin's theory of evolution. Dubbed the "Scopes Monkey Trial," the case was argued by the most brilliant legal minds of the day, fiery Clarence Darrow and three-time presidential candidate William Jennings Bryan. These actual people and events inspired Jerome Lawrence and Robert Edwin Lee's 1955 play about the passionate views on both sides. The great storytelling of this classic rings with relevance to our culture's current struggles with the relationship between faith and science.
