DESCRIPTION

The original Fisk Jubilee Singers® introduced “slave songs” to the world in 1871 and were instrumental in preserving the unique American musical tradition known today as Negro spirituals. They have been performing at their Fisk University home and on international tour ever since, receiving in 2008 the National Medal of Arts, America’s highest honor for artists and patrons of the arts. Under the direction of Dr. Paul T. Kwami, this Grammy Award-winning a cappella choral ensemble brings its storied heritage and contemporary vitality to TPAC. This performance has been filmed for virtual presentation, celebrating 150 years of cultural importance and artistic excellence by a world-renowned treasure.
