Batsheva Dance Company: MOMO

March 15-17

“A rowdy, dreamlike, and chaotic space: ‘MOMO’ is one of the most beautiful shows Ohad Naharin ever created for Batsheva Dance Company”

--Inbal Cohen Hamo, Portfolio

A titan of contemporary dance and creator of the Gaga movement language, Ohad Naharin brings his powerhouse, Tel-Aviv-based international dance company center stage for the Tennessee Premiere of MOMO. Laurie Anderson and Kronos Quartet’s Landfall and Philip Glass’s Metamorphosis provide the shimmering musical backdrop to this daring new work. MOMO has two souls with separate yet conjoined narratives running alongside one another, hypnotic and intense. Through it all, a shared passion of deep sorrow and beauty unfolds on stage.

Mark Morris Dance Group: The Look of Love

June 28-29

“Mark Morris’s tribute to Burt Bacharach is what the world needs now. Nothing is as it seems in this witty, wounding, and brilliant new dance production.”

-The Washington Post

Mark Morris’ THE LOOK OF LOVE is a wistful homage to the chart-topping songs of Burt Bacharach (“What the World Needs Now,” “Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head,” “I Say a Little Prayer”). Bachrach’s timeless hits mingle with original choreography by Morris, allowing this original dance work to, like a great melody, evoke an atmosphere and inspire feelings all their own. This showpiece features new, lush musical arrangements performed live by an ensemble of piano, trumpet, bass, percussion, and vocals by singer, actress, and Broadway star, Marcy Harriell.
