Attic Rewind || Judah & The Lion

The Attic Sessions

It’s the fairytale story of three boys all studying at Belmont University together, two into music and one the star baseball player. Judah & the Lion was formed when Judah Akers, star baseball player, was looking for a banjo player to help him record a couple of songs. He was introduced to Nate Zuercher who plays banjo for the trio and also brought along Brian MacDonald who was studying mandolin at the time. After an hour and a half jam session, the three instantly felt a connection within their music and sparks flew for the band’s future.

“We are always growing and changing our music to become more ‘us’ and we are definitely influenced by the people around us.”

While they had a rocky start, the band has proven themselves with their music and lyrical meaning on their album, “Folk Hop N’ Roll” which was released in 2016. The album sold over 500,000 copies and their gold single, “Take It All Back” reached number one on Billboard’s Alternative Songs Chart.

In 2018, the band released the deluxe version of “Folk Hop N’ Roll.” The new released included four new songs and a string quartet arrangement of “Take It All Back.” The trio released two new singles off the record which landed them the number 4 and 16 spot on the Alternative Radio Charts.

The band has made festival appearances at Music Midtown, Firefly and the Governors Ball as well as landed themselves spots on The Late Late Show with James Cordon, Good Morning America and Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Their latest tour, Going to Mars, landed them 90 headlining shows in the United States as well as Canada, selling over 100,000 tickets.

Judah and the Lion joined us in the historic War Memorial Auditorium back in 2014 to perform some songs live from their debut record “Kids These Days.”
