Nashville Opera brings ‘Hercules vs Vampires’ to TPAC

Take a 60's cult movie, set it to a new operatic score, add live singers and orchestra, and you get a fantastic night of over-the-top fun. Take a 60’s cult movie, set it to a new operatic score, add live singers and orchestra, and you get a fantastic night of over-the-top fun. Hercules vs Vampires, Patrick Morganelli’s new opera, was written to accompany Mario Bava’s 1961 cult movie of the same name, a sword-and-sandal film that is wildly operatic in scope.  Follow Hercules on his quest to rescue Dianara from eternal enslavement by an evil vampire-master.  The Opera will project the film in its entirety as the new operatic soundtrack is performed live by opera singers and orchestra.

Composer Patrick Morganelli, a Los Angeles-based film composer, ventured into new territory to compose Hercules vs Vampires.

“I hope that audiences will approach Hercules vs Vampires with as few preconceptions as possible, and simply look, listen, and decide for themselves. Many people assume that I wrote this as a way to mock the admittedly modest production values of the film, and I’d like to put that idea to rest.  My intention was to bring the same spirit to the opera that I believe Mario Bava brought to the film, namely, to tell an adventure story as well as it could be told within the limitations of what he had to work with.”  -Patrick Morganelli

The show starts at 8 p.m. on January 27, 2018, in Andrew Jackson Hall , but come early to enjoy a costume contest, photo booth, and an insights talk with composer Patrick Morganelli and CEO & Artistic Director John Hoomes at 7 p.m.! Tickets to this one night only event are just $26 and $45, you can get yours here.
