Mark Morris Dance Group: The Look of Love

June 28-29, 2024

Mark Morris teams up again with musical collaborator Ethan Iverson for THE LOOK OF LOVE, a wistful and heartfelt homage to the chart-topping songs of Burt Bacharach (“Alfie,” “What the World Needs Now,” “Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head,” “The Look of Love,” “I Say a Little Prayer,” and more). A towering figure across decades of Popular music, Bacharach is known for crafting soaring melodies embedded in unique orchestrations influenced by jazz, rock, and Brazilian music — his longtime lyricist Hal David providing unsentimental, often bittersweet lyrics. These powerhouse creatives allow this original dance work to, like a great melody, evoke an atmosphere and inspire feelings all their own. This showpiece features original choreography by Morris and new, lush musical arrangements by Iverson, performed live by an ensemble of piano, trumpet, bass, percussion, and vocals by singer, actress, and Broadway star Marcy Harriell. A must see for dance and music fans alike, THE LOOK OF LOVE also features lighting design by Nicole Pearce and costume design by Isaac Mizrahi.

Paula Vogel’s INDECENT is a powerful and poignant play inspired by the true events surrounding the controversial 1923 Broadway debut of Sholem Asch’s God of Vengeance—a play seen by some as a seminal work of Jewish culture, and by others as an act of traitorous libel. INDECENT follows the journey of the play’s cast and crew as they navigate the challenges of artistic expression and the repression of their voices. INDECENT explores the impact of censorship on art and is a moving tribute to the resilience of artists and the power of art to transcend borders and time.
